The Mayor Walk 2025, held in conjunction with the Kuching Festival Food Fair, will return on Aug 17 at 6 am at the MBKS Boulevard, uniting the Kuching community in a vibrant celebration of health, community spirit, and outdoor camaraderie.

Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the annual event, now entering its seventh year since its humble beginnings in 2017, has blossomed into one of the city’s most cherished community traditions.

“What started as a small step to encourage physical activity has evolved into a meaningful symbol of our shared values and commitment to a better quality of life,” he said during a press conference at the MBKS Headquarters here today.

Wee highlighted that the Mayor Walk is also part of MBKS’s Youth, Culture and Sports Programme, reflecting the council’s mission to foster healthy lifestyles, encourage public participation, and strengthen community bonds.

“At MBKS, we believe a healthy community is the foundation of a thriving city. The Mayor Walk encourages people, either young and old, families and friends, to walk side by side in a spirit of togetherness. In doing so, we reinforce the social bonds that make Kuching South a caring, safe, and inclusive city,” he said.

The Mayor Walk 2025 also reaffirms MBKS’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3 (Good Health and Well‑being) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), promoting not just exercise but a lifestyle centred on balance, awareness, and connection with nature.

Wee emphasised the walk’s role in activating public spaces, transforming parks and streets into platforms for wellness and learning, aligning with MBKS’s vision of a Healthy and Smart City.

“It’s common to see three generations walking together, where grandparents, parents, and children share laughs and conversations. It is this togetherness that makes Mayor Walk so special,” he added.

He also acknowledged the event’s role as an informal educational platform, giving children the chance to experience Kuching South’s natural beauty while fostering environmental awareness.

Wee extended heartfelt thanks to corporate sponsors and partners whose unwavering support has been vital to the success of the event. Among the key sponsors are Ibraco Berhad, contributing RM80,000 worth of T-shirts since 2018; 38 Yayasan Amal Cinta, a T-shirt sponsor since 2023; Chagee, which has pledged RM10,000 and 600 free drink vouchers since 2023; and newcomer Lalamove, which is contributing RM20,000 and 10,000 branded hand fans.

Other supporters include Premier Echo Sound and Light System Sdn Bhd, providing sound system support since 2018, and Revive, supplying 10,800 cans of drinks to keep participants hydrated.

Wee also paid tribute to the City Joggers Club (CJC), MBKS’s long‑standing event partner since 2017, for their tireless contributions in logistics, volunteer mobilisation, and event coordination.

Registration for Mayor Walk 2025 is open via the iPeople platform, with T‑shirt collection scheduled for Aug 15 (9 am–4 pm) and Aug 16 (9 am–12 noon) at the MBKS Lobby. Participants are required to bring their iPeople registration QR code during collection.
