Block of Ibraco’s NBX tailored for senior citizens

More than a third of the units in Ibraco Bhd’s (Ibraco) newly launched NBX Residence I have been designed as elderly-friendly homes in a residential block that will be linked by a sheltered skybridge to a future 300-bed specialist hospital.
The development carries a gross development value of RM216 million, with prices starting from around RM500,000 with an early bird rebate.
Bookings opened on Monday, which also saw the launch of the Northbank Business Exchange (NBX) by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian.
Group managing director Datuk Chew Chiaw Han said the elderly-friendly units were designed for seniors who wished to retain their independence while remaining close to daily necessities and healthcare.
“Most importantly, Regency Specialist Hospital Kuching will be located nearby and directly connected to NBX by a sheltered skybridge. Routine medical appointments and emergency healthcare will therefore be within easy reach,” he said at the launch.
The 300-bed hospital, to be developed and operated by Singapore’s HMI Medical, is targeted to commence operations in 2029.
Chew said the sheltered connection would allow hospital staff, patients, visitors and residents to move safely and comfortably between the hospital and NBX, protected from rain, heat and surrounding traffic.
He said the arrangement was also pitched at the children of elderly residents.
“They can be reassured that their parents are living in a secure and accessible community, with daily conveniences, opportunities for social interaction and quality healthcare close at hand.
“For seniors, it offers independence and reduces the concern of managing everyday needs, transportation and access to medical care,” he added.
NBX Residence I comprises 268 units across two towers, ranging from approximately 537 square feet to 1,160 square feet, in one-, two- and three-bedroom layouts as well as dual-key configurations.
Ibraco said further residential phases are planned at NBX but remain at the planning stage, and that the gross development value and total investment for the wider precinct had yet to be finalised.
The precinct’s neighbourhood mall will be owned by Ibraco and managed by a mall operator. The company said it is evaluating proposals from cinema and supermarket operators.
