Three generations will walk side by side in Mayor Walk 2025, now in its seventh year, and it has reached full capacity with approximately 10,000 participants expected to join this vibrant celebration of health, unity, and sustainable living.

According to Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, the walk will take place on August 17 at 6 am at the MBKS Boulevard, with T-shirt collection scheduled for:

  • August 15, from 9 am to 4 pm, and

  • August 16, from 9 am to 1 pm — both sessions at the MBKS Lobby. Participants must present their iPeople registration QR code to collect their T-shirts.

“We are especially proud that this event is intergenerational. It’s common to see three generations walking together, sharing laughs, conversations, and creating memories,” said Wee. “More than just physical activity, the Mayor Walk is also an informal learning platform where children experience and appreciate our local environment, fostering values of conservation and outdoor living.”

The mayor highlighted that since its inception in 2017, the Mayor Walk has grown from a simple community activity into one of Kuching South’s most recognised events promoting health, unity, and a love for the outdoors.

“This initiative is part of our Youth, Culture, and Sports Programme, and continues to reflect our mission to foster healthy lifestyles, encourage public participation, and build a stronger community,” he added.

He also noted that the walk reinforces MBKS’ commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and Goal 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), guiding the development of impactful and sustainable programmes that promote balance, awareness, and connection with nature.

“At MBKS, we believe a healthy community is the foundation of a thriving city. The Mayor Walk encourages people, young and old, families and friends, to walk side by side in a spirit of togetherness. In doing so, we reinforce the social bonds that make Kuching South a caring, safe, and inclusive city.”

Wee expressed gratitude to the event’s sponsors whose support has been essential in transforming the walk into a large-scale community celebration. Long-time supporter Ibraco Berhad, which has backed the event since 2018, has contributed RM 80,000 worth of T-shirts. Other sponsors include Yayasan Amal Cinta, Chagee, Lalamove, Premier Echo Sound and Light System, Revive, Sarawak Energy Berhad, Go Beyond, WG Cycle, Kok Siong, and the City Joggers Club (CJC)

Also present at the press conference were MBKS Deputy Mayor Dato Zaiedi Suhaili, organising chairman Cr Hemang Yu Abit, other councillors, and sponsors.
